- Meaning of the title: Part of knowledge is recognizing between right and wrong
- Summary: Based on the period of time which Plato was alive, Athens was one of the initial democratic nations and caused him to form negative opinions about government. Coming from a rich aristocratic and political family, Plato was able to see the corruption to occur and was against those views. In Plato’s opinion, people should rebel against the system and even tried to plan rebellions against the government himself. Because of the war going on at the time with Athens, Plato’s views against government furthered. By separating himself from his family and their traditional political views, Plato was able to disconnect himself and form his own beliefs and opinions. Had it not been for the events going on in Athens with its democracy and government, Plato may not have formed his strong opinions.
